cross-country

We are very fortunate at South Makirikiri School to have a school community invested in providing sporting opportunities for all our students.

In 2023, we have netball, rugby, hockey, and basketball teams participating in winter weekend competitions.  Our senior swimming sports was held at the end of Term 1 in Marton, and the Athletics Day saw the whole school compete.  A fitness track keeps everyone active year-round, and we are very lucky to have a well-equipped PE shed.  Year 8 students also have the opportunity to go sailing with Mr Allan (Principal) on Duddings Lake when weather conditions allow. The whole-school cross country will run in the first week of Term 4 and will be held at Duddings Lake.

Massey University hosted an interschool cross country for Year 5, 6, 7 and 8 students on 7 June 2023.  A huge “well done” to all our students who participated – Labronn Wirihana-Smith, Parker Nairne, Ryder Jones, Dyllan Nairne, Alecia Fogden, Lauren Taylor-Yeates, Ashwin Bason, Max O’Neill, Mitchell Thoms and Hamish Knox.

Congratulations to Leah Maas who placed 3rd in the Year 6 Girls competition, Indy Jones placed 11th in the Year 5 Girls, and Millie Greer placed 14th in the Year 8 Girls.
