Announcement :

Currently Taking Enrolments

Monday 14th March

We really appreciate all the amazing work you aere all haivng to do on the fly. We had approximately 40% of the school away today with a range of sickness, family isolating or because of contracting Covid. We also have been impacted by staff having to isolate and as a result Room 6 students who attended school worked alongside Room 1. We hope all those working through isolation and Covid infections a speedy recovery.

As indicated in previous newsletters we will move to a hybrid learning platform if the need arises. Currently we can manage all students attending school and all the teachers, that can be onsite are prepared to continue with their learning programmes. Just like you, we are reacting as best we cqn for the changing situations.

We do have access to some hard packs and I know class teachers are providing access to learning through Seesaw and google classroom.

For the next few days the office will be closed and we ask that all queries are send to office@southmak.school.nz or phoned in.

We look forward to seeing everyone back on deck as soon as practical.

Covid update Sunday 13th March.

Afternoon Everyone,

I would just like to keep you updated with how South Makirikiri School is going regarding Covid and the new guidelines that have just been issued.

Firstly:
We now have a number of students along with families having tested positive for COVID this is now both through within school transmission and outside of school contacts. Many families are having to isolate as household contacts and we appreciate your cooperation with making this woirk the best you can.

As of today we now have one staff member isolating. This will start to impact on classes and how we manage students learning. If there are lower class numbers we will merge classes to manage the learnig prohgrammes. School will continue to function as normal as possible with learning accuring in all classes.

As a reminder to all Parents and Caregivers, please watch for symptoms of COVID-19. These include:
o A new or worsening cough
o Sneezing and runny nose
o A fever
o Temporary loss of smell or altered sense of taste
o Sore throat
o Shortness of breath

If any develop, get tested immediately, then, stay at home until you receive the result. If you are unsure about isolation requirements.

Please can we encourage you to call the office if your child is absent so that we know whether it is COVID related. In addition to this if you are at home isolating then please let us know if any students test positive. We are keeping a spreadsheet here at school and so would like to know when peoples Day 0 is in terms of them returning to school.

I would like to say a huge thank you to you all for the wonderful way that you are all dealing with this. We appreciate you keeping your child at home with a cough or a sneeze even when we know it isn’t COVID. We are very fortunate here – many schools seem riddled with it – yet we are not, and that is down to you and the way you are managing your households.
THANK YOU.

Year 8 Crossing Postponed

Year 8 families:

As indicated yesterday we are now in the position that we need to postpone the Crossing planned for Monday.
This event we want all to be able to experience as a group.

I will work out another date that will suit and we will work from there.
Sorry for the inconvenience but in light of the current covid situation it think it is best to give everyone the chance to complete the trek together.
